On November 14, 2022, the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) co-hosted the "Japan-Germany 1.5 Track Security Dialogue" with the Japanese-German Center Berlin (JDZB), the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), the German Federal Foreign Office, and the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Japanese and German experts and government officials attended the dialogue and discussed the security situation in Europe and other issues in the closed sessions. In the public session, discussion was held under the theme "Russian Aggression against Ukraine and future cooperation between Japan and Germany".

This Security Dialogue has been held since 2014, alternately in Japan and Germany. In 2020 and 2021, it was held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but this event was held in the face-to-face format for the first time in three years, including the public session.
