The Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) Platform hosted a public symposium on “Studies on Xi Jinping” with Professor Takashi Suzuki, Daito Bunka University, a leading expert in contemporary Chinese studies and the author of Shukimpei Kenkyu--Shihai Taisei to Shidosha no Jitsuzo [Studies on Xi Jinping: Real Picture of China’s Ruling System and the Leadership] (2025, University of Tokyo Press) as speaker. During the symposium, Professor Suzuki gave his comment on the origins of Xi Jinping’s thought and on the source of Xi’s behavior. Additionally, Professor Ryosei Kokubun, Professor Emeritus at Keio University and at the National Defense Academy of Japan, Professor Akio Takahara, Distinguished Visiting Professor at Tokyo Woman’s Christian University, along with Senior Adjunct Fellows of JIIA, participated as commentators, fostering a lively exchange of opinions.
