The situation on the Korean Peninsula (North/South Korea) is one of the crucial factors in Japan’s foreign and security policy environment that needs close and constant attention. The frequency of developments garnering public interest as well as the enormity of incoming information due to the area’s geographic and cultural proximity make objective observations and "big picture" assessments difficult. JIIA is engaged in various activities aimed at analyzing the Korean Peninsula realistically from both macro (regional/global) and micro (intraregional) perspectives, and at formulating suggestions that contribute to policy making and academic research.
