The Russian invasion of Ukraine that began in February 2022 is showing signs of becoming protracted, which will have a strong impact on Russia and CIS countries comparable to the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Russia is becoming increasingly isolated due to repeated criticism from the international community and unprecedented economic sanctions, mainly from Western countries. Growing attention is being focused on the impact these will have on the invasion of Ukraine, also known as 'Putin's war'.
Various developments are also taking place among the CIS countries, such as moves to break free of ties with Russia and changes in relations between the countries.
Based on this awareness of the above issues, JIIA will analyze Russia and the CIS countries from political, economic, diplomatic and security perspectives in examining the foreign policies of these countries, the international circumstances that shape them, and their impact on the regional and international order from multiple perspectives and at multiple levels.
